Precipitated Calcium Carbonate Powder

Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC) Powders are coated for specialty uses like Sealants, Paints, Plastisols, Polymers, Inks, Healthcare and Food. Compared with dry or wet milled natural calcites or chalks, PCC can be distinguished through its finer and more uniform particle sizes, closer particle size distribution and a higher degree of chemical purity.

Typical Physical Properties:
Crystal system: rhombohedral and orthorhombic
Density: 2.71 to 2.94 gram/cc
Hardness: MOHS 3 to 3.5
Biaxial Indicatrix: Negative uniaxial and negative biaxial (2V=18°)
Refractive Index ω = 1.486 to 1.685
Birefringence: 0.172 to 0.155
Infra-Red absorption bands (cm-1):
- Rhombohedral: 714, 876
- Orthorhombic: 698, 714, 857

Applications:
Adhesives & Sealants – Ultra-fine coated PCC qualities are used in PVC, silicone, polysulphide and polyurethane sealants for the automotive, construction, aerospace, appliances and other industries.

Healthcare & Food – PCC are widely used in pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food applications.

Paint – PCC increases the hiding power, the degree of brightness as well as the scrub and crack resistance of paints through better packing density. It enhances also hydrophobic and thixotropic properties of solvent based paints.

Paper – PCCs are used in papermaking as functional minerals to confer opacity, brightness, bulk and porosity , to achieve significant savings on pulp and pigment. In coating applications, our grades provide high whiteness and opacity with enhanced printability.

Plastics & Rubber – Specially coated grades of PCCs reduce porosity. Fineness and dispersibility of PCCs unite to create high integrity surfaces, which are resistant to ageing and attack from natural elements in the environment.

Printing Inks – PCC allows ink rheology to be controlled for high-speed printing and control of ink transfer properties. Dispersion of colored pigments is improved leading to higher color strength in formulated inks.
